Tour Overview

This safari itinerary is a good choice for those who have only a few days to experience a northern Tanzania camping safari. The destinations of Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro Crater each offer a different experience. Most companies offering this itinerary choose to have overnights in private, walled-in campsites outside of the game viewing area to cut costs and for simplicity. At Tanzania Pure Nature, we believe that spending overnight in the wild campsites is an experience that is not to be missed.

3 Days Tanzania Camping Safari

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
  • Non game-viewing travel time: 1:40 hours
  • Distance: 110.33km

After breakfast, your driver/guide, will be ready at your hotel to pick you head into the Tarangire National Park for a game drive. The park has great landscapes including plains known as “Little Serengeti”. The Tarangire River draws many animals to its river banks, especially during the dry season. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. This African national park is also home to three rare species of animals – the greater kudu, the fringed-eared oryx, as well as a few Ashy starlings. The park also offers a large number of buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, impalas, gazelles, warthogs, and wild dogs which are occasional seen. The park is also enriched with birds with more than 400 species present.

During mid-day we will stop at a designated picnic site for lunch and continue with the game drive until the evening when we drive to the camp for dinner and overnight rest. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Campsite.

Day 2: Tarangire National – Lake Manyara National Park
  • Non game-viewing travel time: 1hours
  • Distance: 56km

After early breakfast, will have game vieing en route to the exit gate and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The park is located in the rift valley and has a great landscape view. The vegetation here is completely different compared to Tarangire. The park is full of green and has several water springs coming from the great rift valley. In this park, you will be able to see monkeys, baboons, zebras, wildebeests, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. This destination is famous for its lions climbing high in the trees, as well as the home of pink flamingos. You will be able also experience large number of different bird species.

Lunch will be inside the park at a designated picnic site and we continue with the game drive. In the mid/late afternoon, you will drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) for relaxation, dinner, and overnight rest. The gates to enter the NCA close at 6 pm, so we need to be sure to reach there before that time. Simba Campsite in the NCA is well known as having animals wander through the camping area at night. This area tends to be chilly and windy, so you will need to bring an extra layer of clothes to ensure comfort. Dinner and overnight at Simba public campsite

Day 3: Ngorongoro crater – Arusha/JRO
  • Non game-viewing travel time: 1hour
  • Distance:181.21 km.

After early breakfast we will descend over 600 meters into the crater for a game drive for a half day’s safari tour. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeests, zebras, buffalos, elands, warthogs, hippos, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard. Black rhino might also be spotted here.

We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater and act as home for flamingos and hippos. We will have lunch in the picnic site at this lake. Besides the high concentration of animals, the beauty of the majestic crater walls makes for great photography.

The crater is not very large though, just 20km in diameter, so in half day all will be seen. After lunch, we ascend out of the crater and drive back to Arusha or we can also drop you off at Kilimanjaro Airport if you wish. Hotel is Bed & Breakfast basis
